EMS Special Situations Court, Aug 25-26, NYS

EMS Special Situations Course – PILOT 1
SEATS ARE NOW AVAILABLE
Held at the State Preparedness Training Center, 5900 Airport Road, Oriskany, NY 13424 on August 25 (8am to 7pm) – August 26 (8am to 5pm), 2012.
Description:
The EMS Special Situations Course provides training for emergency medical services (EMS) and fire rescue personnel to respond to calls involving complex circumstances that are not encountered during a routine response. These calls often involve multiple patients with imminent and changing physical hazards, violent subjects, and difficult operating environments. Such special situations require EMS and fire rescue personnel to liaise with other agencies, establish their own incident commands, assess and evaluate the safety of scenes involving special situations, and employ advanced medical techniques as necessary.

This training is designed to reinforce correct application of basic emergency medical skills while developing advanced techniques through instruction, practice, and scenarios. This course presents participants with circumstances that require effective situational awareness, scene assessment, communication and coordination, teamwork, and decision making. Although the complex scenarios in this course are atypical in many local jurisdictions, they necessitate that EMS/fire personnel practice correct skill implementation under stress.

Topics Include:
·         Baseline Skill Assessment
·         Application of Basic Skills to Special Situations: Principles and Practices
·         Single Unit Response to Special Situations (Scenario-Based Activities)
·         Managing Multiple Casualty Incidents: Principles and Practices
·         Multiple Unit Response to Complex Situations
·         (Scenario-Based Activities)
·         Lessons Learned

Course Provider:
This course is being taught by a team of subject matter expert instructors from the National Center for Security & Preparedness and the State Preparedness Training Center.
